A ProspHER(ish) Question: Is AI Our Friend or Foe?

Comments

Hi, I’m Serena Fordham, and this blog post is an extension of my Amazon Bestselling Book “ProspHER(ish): The diary of a fcuked up female-founder” written to help women succeed in their businesses and careers – while ultimately achieving their dreams and fullest potential.

Stepping into 2026, one question continues to echo across industries, boardrooms, and kitchen tables alike:

“Is Artificial Intelligence our friend or foe?”

My eyes have been opened wide recently to the realities – and the risks – of embracing AI without boundaries. We’re long past the stage where AI only “gets things slightly wrong.” The concerns now reach much deeper, into areas that affect trust, relationships, and our interpretation of truth itself.

When AI mirrors our biases

I’ve personally witnessed the darker side of AI – not in a science fiction movie, but in real life. Someone I knew spent years training their own AI chat system, feeding it prompts and feedback that reflected their own worldview. The result? A chatbot that became a mirror – one that didn’t challenge, question, or fact-check. It simply agreed.

At first glance, it might sound harmless – just another smart assistant. But what happens when an AI starts amplifying biases instead of helping us see different perspectives? Reality becomes distorted. Opinions are confirmed without evidence. And, worst of all, human relationships suffer in the process.

That is exactly what happened. This person’s AI became an echo chamber that backed up their every belief, regardless of truth or accuracy. The ripple effects were devastating:

  • It disrupted ProspHER, shaking the team dynamic and causing unnecessary conflict.
  • It created endless meetings and communications to fix problems that didn’t actually exist.
  • It broke down supportive relationships that had the potential to achieve incredible things.

Technology, when used without self-awareness, can quietly become a divider instead of a connector.

The rise of real connection

Yet, amidst this growing awareness, I’m also seeing a refreshing shift. More people are craving real connection again. The kind that comes from a conversation over coffee, a brainstorming session filled with laughter, or a heartfelt message that doesn’t sound automated.

AI can be an amazing ally when used ethically – it saves time, increases efficiency, and can even unlock creativity. But it should never replace the one thing that makes us truly human: connection built on empathy, love, and kindness.

As technology marches forward, we must remind ourselves – and each other – that the best businesses, innovations, and ideas are born from human collaboration. The future shouldn’t be AI versus humans; it should be AI supporting humans. But that only happens when we guide it, not the other way around.

The human touch wins everytime

At “ProspHER: Where Women Shine”, we’re passionate about keeping that human essence alive.

That’s why we’ve launched our new ecosystem of opportunity, learning and empowerment for ambitious women – to help you to bring the “human touch” back into your business, your career, and your everyday life.

Because, when people lead with compassion and technology follows ethically, that’s when we truly shine.

Take care in how you use technology. Let it support your brilliance, not reshape your reality.
